The court announced the verdict on Wednesday (November 26). The accused in the case will have the opportunity to appeal within 30 days of the verdict. Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was also sentenced to five years in prison in the case.

The verdict was delivered by a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, whose other two members were Justice Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The verdict was broadcast live from the courtroom of Tribunal-1. This is the first case of crimes against humanity, including murders during the uprising, for which the verdict was announced today. In this case, it is the first time in the country's history that a prime minister has been tried and sentenced for crimes against humanity.
