Speaking to reporters after a meeting with a delegation from the National Citizens Party (NCP) at the EC office this evening, Akhtar Ahmed said, “The EC has nothing to say on this matter for now. The Commission will not make any statement until the ordinance returns from the Law Ministry.”
Providing an update on voter registration, the senior secretary said that as of October 31, the total number of registered voters in the country stood at 127.612 million. Among them, 64.760 million are males, 62.850 million are females, and 1,230 are listed as third-gender voters.
He noted that due to the extension of the voter registration period from September 1 to October 31, 1,304,880 new voters have been added to the list. The final voter list is expected to be published on November 18.
Addressing the issue of expatriate voters, Akhtar Ahmed stated, “Those who are 18 years of age or older and have a National ID (NID) number can register as expatriate voters through the app from November 16. Only registered expatriates will be able to vote in the upcoming national election.”
He further mentioned that the expatriate voter registration process is currently being conducted in 21 centers across 11 embassies, with initiatives underway to gradually expand the program to all Bangladeshi embassies worldwide.
