The ceremony was administered by the party’s internal election commission chief, ATM Masum. Leaders from various political parties were also in attendance.
In his speech following the swearing-in, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the need for unity, saying, “We must move the country forward together, overcoming divisions, majority-minority conflicts, and the culture of hatred in politics.”
He further alleged that corruption and misrule over the past 15 years had brought no benefit to the people. “Almost all political parties, including the religious clerics, faced oppression. For many, prison became the first shelter,” he said. Dr. Rahman added that Bangladesh was now emerging from what he described as a “long dark shadow” in politics.
Leaders and grassroots activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different regions of the country participated in the event.
