Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the information to reporters in front of his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday.

“We have finalized the list of polling stations today. The total number stands at 42,761 across 64 districts,” Akhtar Ahmed said. “As for polling rooms, 115,137 have been allocated for male voters and 129,602 for female voters — a total of 244,649 rooms nationwide.”

He further mentioned that there will be 14 temporary polling stations, which will collectively have about 12,000 polling booths. On average, each booth will serve around 3,000 voters, which the EC has considered as the standard “catchment area.” He added that the numbers may be adjusted later if necessary.

According to the EC’s earlier draft, the number of polling stations was 42,618, while during the 12th National Parliamentary Election, the figure was 42,148.

Interestingly, while the total number of polling stations has increased for the upcoming election, the number of polling rooms has decreased. This time, there will be 244,649 polling rooms, compared to 261,564 in the previous election.
