He made the remarks on Saturday (October 11) while speaking at a national consultation meeting on the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance-2025 held at a hotel in Dhaka.
Dr. Nazrul said, “There is a lot of talk about safe exits these days. But as advisors, we know very well that none of us need one. What we truly need is a safe exit from the diseased and self-destructive state structure that has developed over time.”
Referring to long-standing governance failures, he said, “For the past 55 years, we have witnessed misrule, extrajudicial killings, widespread corruption, and the looting of banks and public deposits. These are the real issues from which the people of this nation need deliverance.”
The consultation meeting was attended by Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and Industrial Affairs; Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources; Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman; Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon; and representatives of various international organizations.
The event focused on reviewing and refining the proposed National Human Rights Commission Ordinance-2025 to strengthen human rights protection and institutional accountability in Bangladesh.
