The decision was taken at an appeal hearing held at the Election Commission auditorium in Agargaon on Saturday (January 17).
Earlier, Manjurul Ahsan Munshi had appealed to the EC seeking the cancellation of Hasnat Abdullah’s nomination. In his appeal, the BNP candidate alleged that the Tk 3 million mentioned by Hasnat Abdullah as election expenses through “crowdfunding” was not genuine.
However, the Election Commission did not accept the allegation during the hearing. As a result, the decision of the Returning Officer was upheld, and Hasnat Abdullah’s nomination paper was declared valid.
With this ruling, there remains no legal obstacle to Hasnat Abdullah contesting the election in the Comilla-4 constituency.
