From early morning, university officials and employees gathered in front of the administration building, the Senate building, and Amtala to enforce the protest program.
Following a syndicate meeting on Sunday, Acting Registrar Prof. Dr. Iftikharul Alam Masud told reporters that a five-member internal committee has been formed to investigate the incident of insulting and physically assaulting the deputy vice-chancellor. The syndicate also recommended the formation of a judicial investigation committee for an impartial probe.
“The syndicate was informed yesterday about the suspension of admissions under institutional facilities. It has supported this decision. Admissions were scheduled to start today, but we are holding them back until discussions are held with all relevant parties,” Prof. Masud added.
Describing the assault at Zuberi Bhavan as an “unprecedented incident,” he said, “A deputy vice-chancellor has been physically attacked in this manner. The syndicate strongly condemns it. A five-member committee has already been formed to ensure a fair investigation, alongside the decision to pursue a judicial probe.”
Meanwhile, commenting on the syndicate’s decision to suspend the pet quota, RU Officers’ Association President Moktar Hossain said, “We are deeply disappointed with this decision because all universities in the country have this facility. Since it has been withdrawn from us, we are enforcing a complete shutdown from today. However, transport, water, electricity, and Raksu-related activities will remain exempt.”
