In a Facebook post marking World Refugee Day on Friday, Tarique described the Rohingya crisis as one of the world’s gravest humanitarian emergencies. He emphasized the need for sustained international attention and action.
“We urge the interim government to intensify diplomatic efforts and put sustained pressure on Myanmar for the safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingyas,” he stated.
Tarique also called on the international community to hold all responsible parties accountable, noting that the crisis is far from being resolved.
Expressing solidarity with forcibly displaced populations worldwide, the BNP leader highlighted that the refugee crisis is not just a global issue but a day-to-day reality for Bangladesh. He pointed out that over 1.4 million Rohingya refugees are currently residing in camps in Cox’s Bazar, a reflection of Bangladesh’s enduring humanitarian commitment.
“This crisis remains one of the world’s gravest, and the burden is growing to levels that are dangerously unsustainable,” Tarique observed.
He urged the global community to renew its commitment to peaceful and just systems that ensure no refugee is left behind when returning home.
World Refugee Day is observed annually on June 20 to recognize the strength and resilience of refugees and to raise awareness of their rights and challenges.
