According to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station sources, police are the plaintiffs in all four cases. One case was filed by a traffic sergeant, while the remaining three were lodged directly by the police station. The accused in all cases have been listed as unidentified individuals, numbering between 800 and 900. So far, one person—identified as Rimon Chandra Barman—has been arrested in connection with the incidents.

Confirming the information, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emaul Haque told Dhaka Post on Saturday (October 18), “Four cases have been filed so far regarding yesterday’s incident. Of these, one case was filed by a traffic officer and the rest by the police station. The cases accuse terrorists, vandals, saboteurs, and individuals with extremist motives of involvement in attacks, arson, and destruction of public property.”

The OC added that one of the cases involves charges of unlawful entry into a protected area, while the other three relate to attacks on police, vehicle vandalism, and arson targeting the control room.

The clashes erupted on Friday (October 17) when a group of protesters under the banner ‘July Fighters’ gathered on Manik Mia Avenue, demanding inclusion of their three-point charter in the official July Charter.

Around 1:30 p.m., violent confrontations broke out near Gate No. 12 of the National Parliament Building. A section of protesters positioned outside the building reportedly broke through the gate and entered the premises, while another group inside came out to join them.

During the chaos, protesters hurled bottles and chairs at police officers, prompting law enforcement to respond with sound grenades and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Protesters retaliated by setting fires on the road and throwing bricks and stones. Several police vehicles were vandalized in the process, and multiple injuries were reported on both sides.

The situation was eventually brought under control, but authorities say investigations are ongoing to identify those involved in the violence and arson ahead of the historic signing of the July Charter.
