According to the announcement made by the interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the national election is scheduled to be held in February.

Ahead of the polls, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the party’s initial list of candidates at a press conference on Monday (November 3) at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

Earlier, the party’s standing committee, led by acting chairman Tarique Rahman, finalized the preliminary list of nominees during a high-level meeting.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “After 16 long years, we are preparing for democratic elections this February. We are releasing a list of potential candidates for about 237 seats. The BNP will coordinate with the partners of the simultaneous movement regarding seat sharing.”

He confirmed that Khaleda Zia, the party’s chairperson and former prime minister, will contest from Dinajpur-3, Bogra-7, and Feni-1 constituencies.

In an earlier interview with Dhaka Post, Mirza Fakhrul mentioned that BNP is conducting extensive field surveys to identify candidates with the highest winning potential.

Senior BNP leaders including Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain were present at the press conference.
