He warned that if the situation continues, public confidence in a free and impartial election will be seriously undermined. He also said the Election Commission would not be able to evade responsibility if the principle of equality in the electoral process is violated.

Dr. Taher made the remarks while speaking to reporters at around 8:00 pm on Sunday (January 18), following a meeting with Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

According to the Jamaat leader, signs of administrative bias in favor of the BNP are now visible across the country. He specifically alleged a lack of neutrality among field-level officials, including superintendents of police (SPs) and deputy commissioners (DCs), who are also serving as returning officers in the election.

He said Jamaat-e-Islami has already prepared a list of officials accused of such partial behavior. However, he added that the party is currently monitoring the situation and has not yet filed any written complaint.

Dr. Taher further alleged that the government’s recent practice of providing additional security and protocol to a top political leader over the past two to three weeks constitutes a direct violation of the principle of equality in the electoral arena.

“We have no objection to anyone’s security or protocol,” he said. “But as a major political party, we expect the same treatment for the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Otherwise, it will be regarded as biased behavior.”

The Jamaat Nayeb-e-Amir warned that if the Election Commission fails to take effective measures against such discrimination, the level playing field will collapse, and the nation will view it as a serious discriminatory act.

He said Jamaat-e-Islami has directly drawn the Chief Advisor’s attention to the matter and sought his intervention if the Election Commission does not play its appropriate role.

Dr. Taher added that Jamaat-e-Islami firmly believes the Chief Advisor personally wants a free and fair election. However, he alleged that some advisers around him are attempting to mislead him and urged that the issue be given serious consideration.
