According to sources, the operation was carried out around 4 a.m. in the Charkachia area of Ward No. 8 under Dakshin Charbangshi Union. Acting on secret information, a special patrol team of the army, led by Captain Mohammad Saiyib Hasan, conducted the raid as part of a joint security operation in the area.
During the raid, the army recovered a foreign-made .22 rifle and six rounds of ammunition from the BNP leader’s house. However, locals reported that Aminul Aziz Badsha, also known as Badsha Gazi, fled before the raid took place.
Witnesses said panic spread through the neighborhood as army personnel surrounded the area in the early hours of the morning. While most residents were asleep, some came outside after sensing the presence of the security forces. The incident has since created a stir in the locality.
Local residents told reporters that due to ongoing political unrest and internal conflicts in the area, law enforcement agencies have increased surveillance in recent weeks. Some locals described the operation as a “necessary step” to ensure public safety.
The absconding BNP leader, aged around 50, is the son of the late Abdul Aziz Gazi of Charkachia village. He has been involved in local politics for years and currently serves as the General Secretary of the BNP’s Dakshin Charbangshi Union branch.
Following the incident, Aminul Aziz Badsha went live on Facebook, claiming that the raid and recovery were part of a conspiracy to defame him politically. “The army was misled with false information to humiliate me. I have no weapons; I am completely innocent,” he said.
Supporters of the BNP leader also alleged that the raid was politically motivated. They claimed that a group of rivals was conspiring to harass Badsha, a known opposition activist. However, the administration has not made any official comment on these allegations.
On the other hand, some local public representatives welcomed the operation, saying that the recovery of illegal arms would help reduce crime in the area.
Raipur Upazila BNP President Nazmul Islam Mithu said, “To us, this incident appears staged. Some biased individuals within the administration are trying to tarnish BNP’s image through a fabricated arms recovery drama. This is a clear case of political harassment.”
Confirming the incident, Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehedi Hasan Kawsar said, “The army operation was part of regular security drives. The recovered weapons and ammunition have been deposited at the police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.”
Captain Mohammad Saiyib Hasan, who led the operation, said, “We acted based on confidential information. Weapons and bullets were recovered from the location. Although the accused managed to flee, efforts to arrest him are ongoing.”
After the operation, the recovered items were handed over to Raipur Police Station. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter, saying, “The army handed over the rifle and ammunition to us. A case under the Arms Act is being processed, and the operation to arrest the absconding accused continues.”
Following the raid, tension has gripped the area, prompting intensified patrols by both the army and police. The local administration has assured residents that the law and order situation remains under control and urged them not to panic.
