The earthquake struck at 10:38 am on Friday, causing panicked people to rush out of their homes and onto the streets. Walls collapsed and cracked in various places.

At noon, Director of the Hospital and Clinic Branch of the Directorate General of Health Services, Dr. Moinul Ahsan, said that at least three people have died and more than a hundred people have been injured in Dhaka. Emergency medical teams are working in all hospitals in the country to treat the casualties. The Directorate General of Health Services and the Ministry of Health are directly monitoring the situation.

One of the deceased in Dhaka has been identified. The identities of the other two are unknown. Outside Dhaka, two deaths were reported in Narsingdi and one in Narayanganj. Among them, a child named Omar (10) died after a wall collapsed in Gabtoli, Narsingdi. An old woman died when a mud wall collapsed in Palash. And a child named Fatema (1) died when a wall collapsed in Rupganj.

Meanwhile, the Health Department said in a statement that three people were killed at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital due to the impact of the earthquake in different areas of Dhaka. Among the dead is Rafiul Islam, a second-year student of the 52nd batch of the medical college. His mother and many others have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. In addition, more than a hundred casualties have been reported in this earthquake so far, many of whom are in serious condition.

It has also been said that according to unofficial information, 10 injured people have been admitted to Sir Salimullah Medical College. The same number of 10 injured people have also been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. 10 injured people are being treated at Tajuddin Medical College in Gazipur. In addition, 45 injured people are at Narsingdi District Hospital, out of which 3 have been referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition has deteriorated. Even 10 injured people are admitted to the 100-bed hospital.

More than 100 workers injured in Gazipur

On the other hand, more than a hundred garment workers were injured when they rushed to Sreepur in Gazipur due to panic during the earthquake.

When tall buildings begin to sway in an earthquake, people quickly run out of homes, offices, factories, and shops and into open spaces.

According to eyewitnesses, more than a hundred workers were injured as they rushed to get down from the Gargaria Masterbari Denim Factory in Sreepur Upazila and the local Coast to Coast Factory in Itahata area of ​​the city as soon as the earthquake was felt. They were given first aid. Many others were admitted to various hospitals including Dhaka Medical College in serious condition. The authorities declared a holiday for the factories to control the situation.

Workers at the Denimek factory in Sreepur said that work was going on on different floors of the factory's seven-story building in the morning. Suddenly, the earthquake started and the building started shaking. At that time, when the siren rang, the factory workers rushed down in fear and were trampled, injuring many workers.

In addition, there was a sudden increase in pressure on mobile networks in Tongi and Joydevpur in Gazipur city and Kaliakoir, Sreepur, Kaliganj and Kapasia in the district, causing call drops and network complications.

Gazipur's new Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alam Hossain said, "No major damage has been reported in Gazipur. Some workers were injured while rushing to get down."
