He said, "If anyone thinks of coming to power unjustly, it will remain a nightmare. The people will once again resist them and bring down that power through movement."
He made these remarks at a press conference at the party office in Moghbazar in the capital on Tuesday (January 27).
He said, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is the only party whose 43 percent are women and its number is not less than 15 million. Our RPO has a provision to have 33 percent women members in political parties. Only Jamaat has been able to fulfill this condition. Although our friends think in various ways that women are less important in Jamaat-e-Islami. If they are less important in parties with more women members, then how will they be important in parties with less women? In fact, they want to establish a wrong point through propaganda.
Dr. Taher said, "The elections are very close. The women members of Jamaat-e-Islami are very active in this election. Along with our male workers, women are also going door to door to communicate with voters and solicit votes."
Citing the party's review, he said, "According to our assessment, women voters across the country will vote more for Jamaat. Because women are peace-loving and they do not like chaos or extremism."
He further said, "In my constituency of Chauddagram, my assessment is that I will get more women's votes than men, God willing. I will get a lot of men's votes too, but women are ahead in terms of votes and they are very active. This is how our women are working across the country."
He said, "Our main opponents have realized that the way Jamaat women have become active, their activities can surpass all the activities of the opponents. That is why our women are being attacked and harassed across the country. An attempt is being made to create a frightening environment by intimidation."
Taher said, "We think women are very respectable; they are our mothers, sisters and daughters. We all have a responsibility to protect their honor and safety. But unfortunately, those who shout about women's rights and freedom are now attacking women only for political reasons. Attacks have already started in different parts of the country. Speeches are being made about cutting off the tongue; there are also threats that if you vote for Jamaat, you will not be able to move your hand."
Highlighting the Election Commission's commitment, he said, "The main commitment of the current government is a fair and peaceful election. Because if the election is not fair and impartial, its results will not be accepted at home and abroad. And if the election is not accepted, the future of the nation will be very dark and negative."
Jamaat leader Taher said that along with political parties, the government also has a big role to play here. All parties should understand that coming to power by force can lead to worse consequences than before.
He further said, "All political parties, including Jamaat, must show responsibility. They must play a role in organizing a fair and just election. Otherwise, there will be no other option to keep the country on the right path and as a result, we will all be affected. If someone thinks that everything is over once they come to power by force, then I think that would be a gravely wrong political thought and decision."
Dr. Taher said, women workers have been injured and faced obstacles in political clashes in different parts of the country. Many have not been able to participate in party programs. Numerous such incidents are happening across the country. As the issue is very sensitive, we have prioritized the issue of attacks on women workers here. Basically, threats are being made at the centers in most constituencies. Beatings have started and exercises are being carried out to capture and control the centers. In many places, it seems that this is the main strategy of our opponent party. They know that they have little chance of getting the people's verdict in terms of popularity. Therefore, they have chosen capturing the center as one of the means. They are prioritizing these terrorist activities for the so-called victory.
He further said, "Our words are very clear - whether women or men, everyone must make efforts to maintain a fair environment for the elections and everyone must play a responsible role."
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, were present at the time.
