The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing confirmed the matter in an official statement on Friday (November 14).

According to the Chief Advisor, all activities of the Awami League remain suspended under the Anti-Terrorism Act. As a result, the party is no longer eligible to contest the election, and the Election Commission has removed the party from the list of registered political parties.

Dr. Yunus said the upcoming national election will be fully participatory. Nearly one million new young voters are expected to cast their ballots for the first time—voters who did not have the opportunity to vote in the three national elections held during the 16 years of Awami League’s tenure.

The Chief Advisor further stated that the national election is scheduled to be held in the first half of February. This year’s polls will be inclusive, transparent, and participatory, with the possibility of a significantly high voter turnout.

Referring to the July Charter, he said, “It is a symbol of a new beginning for Bangladesh. The aspirations of millions who took part in the historic July-August mass uprising last year will be reflected through this charter.”
