He made the remarks while addressing a special crime review meeting held at the Hall of Pride conference room of the Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Monday morning, where he attended as the chief guest.
“Cybercrime has increased significantly in recent times,” the advisor said, urging young police officers to take the lead in tackling such offenses.
Highlighting the importance of the police in ensuring a peaceful and credible national election, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “The role of the police is crucial in making the upcoming National Parliamentary Election free, fair, and impartial. The greatest responsibility for fulfilling the expectations of the people and political parties rests on the shoulders of the police. Everyone expects that the police will set a standard in the upcoming polls — one that will earn appreciation both nationally and internationally.”
He reminded officers that law enforcement is upheld not only by force but also through justice, integrity, and humanity. “In the electoral arena, you are not just the guardians of law and order; you are the symbol of protecting the security, trust, and democratic rights of the people,” he said.
Referring to the ongoing political developments, the advisor noted that dialogues and discussions have begun between political parties ahead of the election. “No member of the police force should align with any political party, offer or accept special favors, or behave as a political activist,” he cautioned.
The advisor also revealed that the police have identified a list of fascist elements who are directly involved in creating social and political unrest. “Some criminals, after being released on bail, are returning to criminal activities. Arrest operations should be intensified to prevent fascist acts, propaganda, anti-political activities, crimes, and unauthorized processions. However, innocent people must not be harassed,” he added.
Calling for greater discipline and professionalism within the force, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury urged senior officers to strengthen teamwork, morale, and accountability among subordinates. “Strict administrative and legal action must be taken against those who lack professionalism, fail to follow commands, or show disrespect to the government and the state,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of holding core committee meetings regularly at the district level. “Political harassment cases should be withdrawn promptly, and false cases should be resolved as soon as possible. The Special Branch (SB) of police must be made more proactive, and district-level information should be maintained comprehensively,” he added.
The meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and attended by DIGs of various police ranges, Metropolitan Police Commissioners, and district Superintendents of Police (SPs) through video conference.
