He made the statement while demolishing illegal structures and shops on the sidewalk adjacent to the hospital on Saturday (October 11).

“To maintain a healthy environment around the hospital and ease traffic congestion, no profit-seekers will be allowed to conduct illegal business in front of Dhaka Medical College,” Shahjahan Mia said. “The DSCC and hospital authorities will work in coordination with the public to enforce this.”

On the issue of dengue, the DSCC administrator noted that the actual number of dengue patients in the DSCC area is much lower than the figures reported by the Department of Health. “Since major hospitals are located here, patients from across the country come to the DSCC area for treatment, which may inflate the numbers,” he explained.

Regarding campus cleanliness, he said the DSCC will collaborate with the administrations of Dhaka University (DU), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Dhaka Medical College (DMC) to maintain clean and hygienic campuses.

As part of a special cleanliness and mosquito control program, DSCC conducted a drive today at the campuses of DU, BUET, and DMCH.

During the program, Local Government Department Secretary Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi emphasized collective responsibility, saying, “From today, we will continue to remove extraneous and illegal structures to keep our campuses clean, like universities in developed countries. We also seek everyone’s cooperation in dengue control and waste management by encouraging better habits among citizens.”

The cleanliness drive was attended by DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, Secretary Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, DUCSUR Vice President Md. Abu Sadiq, and officials from BUET and DMC administration.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote public health, environmental hygiene, and traffic management in Dhaka’s educational and medical hubs.
