According to police sources, the robbery is believed to have taken place on Wednesday night (October 8).

Inspector (Investigation) of Ramna Police Station, Tariqul Islam Tariq, said on Thursday morning, “Upon receiving the report, we immediately visited the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that a group of thieves broke the shutter lock of Shampa Jewelers and entered the shop late last night. They stole various gold ornaments kept inside. The shop owner has reported that approximately 500 bhori of gold ornaments were taken.”

CCTV footage collected from the mall showed two individuals wearing burqas entering the jewelry shop around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The footage also revealed that they used tools to cut the shutter lock before looting the gold from the store.

Shop owner Achintya Biswas said, “There were about 500 bhori of gold ornaments in total—400 bhori belonging to the shop and another 100 bhori that had been mortgaged by customers. In addition, Tk 40,000 in cash was also stolen.”

He added, “As usual, I closed the shop last night and went home. This morning, I received a call from the market janitor informing me that the shop had been robbed. I rushed here and found that everything had been taken.”

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are analyzing CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
