The manifesto was unveiled at a press conference held at the university’s Central Shaheed Minar around 12:30 pm on Sunday (October 12).

The 10-point manifesto includes the following pledges:

  1. Declare February 18, the day of Dr. Shamsuzzoha’s martyrdom (1969), as National Teachers’ Day.

2. Ensure academic excellence through coordination with the university administration and develop the university as a center of free knowledge.

3. Improve the university’s library, internet, and electricity services.

4. Ensure the overall safety and security of students on campus.

5. Modernize the campus medical center.

6. Provide adequate facilities for female students and those with special needs.

7. Promote social harmony and foster a free environment for cultural practices.

8. Resolve the student housing crisis.

9. Ensure safe food and clean drinking water.

10. Activate the RU railway station to reduce travel difficulties for distant students and arrange discounted train tickets, alongside increasing bus routes and trips to and from campus.

After the announcement, Sheikh Nur-Uddin Abir, the panel’s Vice-President (VP) candidate, said the manifesto was prepared after extensive discussions with general students.

“There was a slight delay in announcing our manifesto because we wanted to reflect the opinions and priorities of ordinary students,” Abir said. “None of our pledges are unrealistic. With student support and cooperation from the administration, we can implement them within a short time.”

According to the RAKSU Election Committee, a total of 247 candidates are contesting for 23 central posts in the upcoming election. Among them, 18 candidates are running for the Vice-President (VP) post, 13 for the General Secretary (GS) post, and 16 for the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) post.

In addition, 12 student panels — including those supported by Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir — have been announced.

The election will also include: 58 candidates competing for 5 Senate representative posts, and 597 candidates vying for 15 Hall Parliament positions across 17 student halls.

The total number of voters in the RAKSU and Senate elections stands at 28,901, comprising 11,305 female voters and 17,596 male voters.
