Meanwhile, leaders of the protesting employees at the Secretariat were scheduled to brief other employees on the matter in the afternoon.
As per a prior decision, senior officials, including Land Ministry Senior Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed, met with the cabinet secretary in the morning to convey the contents of Tuesday’s meeting with the employees.
During Tuesday’s meeting, employee representatives demanded a complete repeal of the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Saleh said they informed the cabinet secretary of the employees’ demands and the discussions.
He added that the cabinet secretary is not in a position to make a decision on the matter and will refer it to the chief adviser instead.
The chief adviser departed for a trip to Japan early on Wednesday and is scheduled to return on Saturday.
Saleh said that after the chief adviser returns, the cabinet secretary will present the issue to him.
Following Tuesday’s discussions with the land secretary regarding the demands, employees suspended their protest programs scheduled for Wednesday.
Earlier, on Thursday, the Advisory Council of the interim government approved a draft to amend the Government Service Act, 2018 through the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
Since then, employees from various ministries and departments have been holding protests opposing the move.
Despite the protests, the government officially issued the Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance on Sunday evening.
Demanding its withdrawal, employees from various ministries and departments have been holding protest marches and rallies within the Secretariat for four consecutive days since Saturday.
A large number of employees left their offices to join the demonstrations.
They have termed the ordinance repressive and a "black law" and are calling for its immediate repeal.
