He expressed his thoughts in a Facebook post early Saturday (Bangladesh time), which quickly went viral and sparked widespread discussion across social media.

In his post, Tarique Rahman conveyed the deep gratitude of the Zia family for the prayers and support from people of all walks of life amid Khaleda Zia’s deteriorating health. He wrote that the BNP chief is currently in “seriously ill and critical” condition in intensive care, and that citizens across the political spectrum are sincerely praying for her recovery.

“On behalf of the Zia family, I express my sincere thanks and deep gratitude to everyone for their sincere prayers and love for Begum Khaleda Zia,” he wrote. He also urged everyone to continue praying for her rapid recovery.

The most emotional part of the message centered on his desire to return home and be by his mother’s side.

“Like any child, I have a strong desire to receive my mother’s affection and touch during such a crisis,” he wrote. “But like everyone else, my sole decision-making power is not unlimited and is not under my sole control.”

Tarique Rahman hinted that the full details of the matter could not be discussed publicly, suggesting that political realities are delaying his return. He added that his family remains hopeful that “the long anxious wait” for his return will end once the broader political situation becomes “favorable.”

He also mentioned that medical teams from both Bangladesh and abroad are treating Khaleda Zia with “professionalism and sincerity,” and that several friendly countries have expressed willingness to provide advanced medical support if needed.

Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from multiple health complications. She is currently receiving treatment in the CCU of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that her condition remains “very critical,” prompting prayers and concern from supporters nationwide.
