The directive was announced through an office order signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Monday.
According to the order, the DMP observed with concern that the frequent use of mobile phones by police officers during duty hours was hampering their vigilance and performance. “As a result, despite being visible on duty, officers are failing to ensure adequate security for themselves and the public,” the notice stated.
To address this issue, the DMP has instructed that only officers-in-charge or their designated counterparts may use mobile phones while on duty. Any other officer found violating the order will face disciplinary action.
The order emphasized that these measures are part of a broader effort to maintain public safety, ensure neutrality during the electoral process, and prevent unlawful activities by banned groups in the lead-up to the national polls.
