Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul announced the initiative during the inauguration of the Attorney General’s Office Internship Program held at the Supreme Court Auditorium on Tuesday (October 14).
Dr. Nazrul explained that under the current manual system, a person granted bail must go through 12 bureaucratic steps before release a process that often involves harassment and extra costs. The new online system aims to eliminate these hurdles and streamline the bail process.
“After getting bail from the court, an accused has to face 12 stages before release — some even require paying money. To solve this, from October 15, bail letters will be sent online. With one click, the bail bond will reach the concerned prison directly,” said Dr. Nazrul.
He added that the pilot project for this digital transformation has been developed entirely with government funds, without any external assistance.
“We have made many reforms from the Law Ministry — all on our own, without anyone’s help. Tomorrow, we will inaugurate the online bail bond system. The bail order will go directly to the jail from the court verdict with a single click,” he stated.
Highlighting financial transparency within government departments, Dr. Nazrul also mentioned, “Our people trust us with a lot of money. The Prabashi Kalyan Bank holds Tk 16 billion, and the Registrar Office (IGR) has Tk 15 billion. Using our own resources, we can implement many good initiatives.”
In response to a question, the legal advisor revealed that a separate secretariat for the judiciary will be established during the tenure of the interim government. He added that laws concerning enforced disappearances, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and human rights are also set to be finalized within the next few weeks.
The event was presided over by Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, with Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rouf and Barrister Anik R. Haque also addressing the gathering.
