Speaking to journalists in Chittagong on Sunday afternoon, the CEC said, “If a party gets registered, it must choose one of the symbols from the set list approved by the Election Commission. The symbol requested by the NCP is not on that list, so we could not allocate it.”
He further stated that the Election Commission (EC) has the authority to increase or decrease the number of approved symbols, but no decision has yet been made to include the Shapla (water lily) symbol in the official list.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Election Commissioner attended a meeting on the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election at the Circuit House in Chittagong. The meeting was attended by the Chittagong Divisional Commissioner, Chittagong Range DIG, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner, and heads of various government departments.
