He made the remarks while responding to questions from reporters after the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat on Monday (December 22) afternoon.

Replying to a question about the whereabouts of the prime accused in the Hadi murder case, the advisor said that if law enforcement agencies had definite information about his location, he would have already been arrested.

“If we knew exactly where he was, we would have caught him. He could be in the country or he could be abroad. But if we had precise information about his location, he would have been arrested by now,” he said.

The Home Affairs Advisor also said that even if the accused had gone abroad, it was not through legal channels.

“He did not leave the country legally. Whether he has crossed the border through illegal means, I cannot say for certain,” he added.

Stressing that the government is giving the highest priority to bringing those responsible for Hadi’s murder to justice, the advisor said no one involved in the killing would be spared.

“So far, joint forces comprising the police, RAB and BGB have arrested 10 people in connection with the murder,” he said.

Among those arrested are Shaheda Parveen Samia, the wife of the alleged mastermind Faisal Karim, as well as his mother and father, his brothers-in-law Wahid Ahmed and Shipu, and Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used in the crime, he added.

Asked about rumours circulating the previous day regarding his resignation, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury dismissed the speculation.

“If I had resigned, I would not be sitting here now,” he said.

The Home Affairs Advisor said that 20 politicians currently facing security risks have each been provided with armed guards.

“Our intelligence agencies—DGFI, NSI and SB—have identified individuals who are vulnerable and placed them on a list. Based on that assessment, gunmen have been provided. However, many people did not want to accept armed security,” he said.

He also stated that maximum security arrangements have been made for the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country.

“Maximum security measures have been taken for Tarique Rahman’s arrival on December 25. We cannot disclose all details now, but adequate security arrangements are in place,” the advisor added.
