Md. Masudul Hasan Masud, spokesperson for the Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed the information to Dhaka Post on Saturday (October 18).

He said, “The fire has been largely brought under control through the collective efforts of all involved. Flight operations have been temporarily suspended as a precaution. Further details will be shared later.”

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, 37 firefighting units from 13 stations have been deployed to tackle the blaze at the airport’s cargo village.

Tahla Bin Jasim, an officer at the media cell of the Fire Service headquarters, said around 5:00 p.m., “A total of 37 fire service units are working to control the fire. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage have not yet been determined. So far, there have been no reports of casualties.”

He added that the fire service received the alert at 2:34 p.m., and initially nine units were dispatched to the scene. As the situation intensified, additional units were mobilized, bringing the total to 37.

Alongside the fire service, two firefighting units from the Bangladesh Air Force, as well as teams from the Navy and Army, have joined the operation. In addition, two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to assist in the ongoing rescue and containment efforts.

Authorities are continuing efforts to fully extinguish the fire and assess the damage caused by the incident.
