Yesterday, on December 10, Deputy Secretary of the EC's Election Management Branch, Mohammad Monir Hossain, wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Local Government Division to implement the relevant instructions.
The letter states that the process of announcing the schedule for the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum is underway. The Election Commission has decided to remove the posters, banners, wall writings, billboards, gates, arches or enclosures, pandals and lighting etc. of the potential candidates for that election and the election camps, if any, at the expense/responsibility of the potential candidates/individuals concerned within 48 hours of the announcement of the schedule. To this end, it is necessary to instruct various local government institutions including city corporations, municipalities, union councils to take necessary actions.
The EC said that it has been requested to issue instructions to various local government institutions including city corporations, municipalities, union councils and others to implement activities related to the removal of appropriate campaign materials within the stipulated time.
The EC is announcing the schedule at 6 pm on Thursday (December 11). As per the instructions, those concerned will have to remove the advance campaign materials by 6 pm on December 13. Otherwise, punitive action will be taken as per the election code of conduct, said Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah.
