Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is set to leave Dhaka for New York on the night of September 21 to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He will be accompanied by representatives of four major political parties, marking an unprecedented display of inclusive political participation on the global stage.

The delegation includes BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Tarique Rahman’s foreign affairs advisor and the party’s international affairs secretary Humayun Kabir, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Amir Dr. Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP) member secretary Akhtar Hossain.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain briefed reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday, confirming the details of the visit. He stated that Dr. Yunus will return home on October 2 after completing his engagements.

Touhid Hossain highlighted that, for the first time, a high-level meeting on the Rohingya crisis will be held under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary-General. He expressed optimism that this meeting would play an important role in advancing efforts toward resolving the long-standing humanitarian crisis.

Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 26. In his speech, he is expected to highlight preparations for Bangladesh’s upcoming elections, consensus-based reform initiatives, and the country’s broader democratic progress.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor noted that, considering Bangladesh’s current political situation, this is the first time a chief adviser will be joined at the UNGA by representatives from four political parties. He said this step is intended to reflect political inclusivity and national consensus in addressing global and domestic challenges.
