“There will be no note of dissent in the July Charter. Whatever we have agreed upon will stay, and the rest will be decided by the people. If the people demand it, it will be implemented. Keeping that in mind, we hope to move toward elections very soon through the legal framework of the July Charter,” Nahid said.
He made these remarks while addressing the inaugural and discussion meeting of the University Teachers Forum (UTF) held at the Kabi Shamsur Rahman Conference Room of the Bangla Academy on Friday (November 7) afternoon.
The NCP convener said, “We will take Bangladesh forward by embracing the aspirations of the mass uprising. Everyone involved in the movement should be represented in the next parliament. There will be a reform council within that parliament to work toward a new constitution. Teachers, of course, must participate in that process, and as a party, we will make every effort to ensure it.”
Highlighting inclusivity in the reform process, Nahid added, “The upcoming parliament and reform council, where youth, teachers, scholars, women, minorities, and professionals from different sectors will participate, will implement the July Charter we are committed to. But before that, our current demand is a referendum, and this order based on the July Charter must be entrusted to Dr. Mohammad Yunus.”
During the ceremony, the declaration of the University Teachers Forum was read out by its Convener Professor Md. Sirajul Islam and Member Secretary Professor Shamim Hamidi.
