The suspension came into effect on Monday (November 24) afternoon.
According to officials from the EC’s relevant branch, all correction-related activities—such as modifying addresses, updating personal details, or making any form of revision to NID information—were halted from 4 pm on Monday. The decision will remain in force until the national election is concluded or until further notice is issued.
EC officials stated that the suspension aims to prevent the addition, modification, or misuse of inaccurate information in NID records during the sensitive election period. To ensure a fair, transparent, and error-free voting process, it is essential to avoid unwanted changes to the voter list, they said.
Sources within the Election Commission added that allowing NID corrections during the election period could create opportunities for the inclusion of incorrect information, potentially affecting both the voter rolls and the overall electoral process. For this reason, the EC considers the temporary suspension the most effective step to ensure a secure and accurate voter list.
