The shooting took place at approximately 4 a.m. in the Minapur border area of Haripur upazila. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel are reportedly on high alert following the incident.

Md. Askar Ali, the deceased, was the son of Md. Kanu Ali from the Jibanpur area of Haripur Union in the same upazila.

Haripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zakaria Mondal confirmed the incident to Dhaka Post.

Local sources suggest that on the morning of the tragedy, Askar Ali approached the Tarkata boundary, which is located about 100 yards inside Indian territory from Main Pillar 353/ under the Minapur BOP in Haripur Union. It was there that BSF personnel opened fire on him. When local residents heard the gunfire, they rushed to the area and found his body lying near the barbed wire.

OC Mohammad Zakaria Mondal further elaborated, stating, "Reports confirm that a Bangladeshi citizen was killed in BSF firing at the border. More details will be revealed once we visit the location."

Lt. Col. Tanzir Ahmed, the Commander of Thakurgaon 50 BGB, also commented on the situation, saying, "I have heard reports of a young man being killed in BSF firing at the Haripur border early Saturday morning. However, this area falls under the jurisdiction of 42 BGB Dinajpur."
