He made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting organized by the Freedom Fighters’ Party at the National Press Club on Wednesday (October 22).

Amir Khasru said, “Everyone at home and abroad is now asking the same question — when will the elections be held in Bangladesh? The country has been running for 15 months without an elected government, which is creating instability.”

He added, “There is currently no accountability anywhere — not among government officials, law enforcement agencies, or the administration. The people have lost expectations from the government because it lacks a public mandate.”

The BNP leader emphasized that power must be returned to the people through an election conducted under a truly neutral administration. “Without an elected government, pressure is mounting in every sector. Those who should have already stepped down are still holding office,” he said.

Regarding election transparency, Amir Khasru stated, “Impartiality is the first condition for fair elections. Without impartiality, evil forces gain strength, and no election can be truly transparent.”

He also alleged that certain individuals in the government are using political influence in administrative appointments and postings. “Some of them are affiliated with specific political parties. If such people remain in charge, the interim government cannot play the role of a neutral caretaker,” he warned.

Amir Khasru further urged the government to refrain from making major policy decisions, saying, “The interim government should focus solely on routine administrative duties. Taking major decisions now will raise serious questions about intent.”

Defending BNP’s political stance, he said, “BNP is acting responsibly. We do not want chaos in the streets — we believe in democratic change. Those creating unrest are going against democracy.”

He added, “BNP’s goal is peaceful change. However, if the situation deteriorates due to actions by certain individuals within the government, it will ultimately harm the administration itself. That’s why the interim government must move into caretaker mode immediately.”

Rejecting foreign interference, Amir Khasru concluded, “Foreign involvement in Bangladesh’s internal affairs will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
