He said, today our important Police Commission Ordinance has been passed. A five-member Police Commission will be formed. The head of this commission will be a retired judge of the Supreme Court. Who has worked as a district magistrate. The members will be any government officer not below grade one, any retired officer not below grade one, a professor of any university, he can be working, he can be retired. He has worked on human rights and good governance, has at least 15 years of experience.
He gave this information at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy auditorium on Thursday (December 4) afternoon.
Explaining the purpose of forming the Police Commission, the advisor said, "The main purpose of this commission is to make the police people-friendly and people-oriented. This commission will work in collaboration with the government. The commission will make
recommendations to the government on what needs to be done so that the police can work free from influence. They will identify where the police need to be modernized and what kind of training is needed to make the police human rights sensitive."
He further said that two other important functions of the commission are to investigate and resolve complaints lodged by citizens against the police and to resolve any complaints against police personnel on professional matters. This is the main feature of the Police Commission Ordinance.
Advisor Syeda Rizwan Hasan said, the commission will make necessary recommendations to bring efficiency and excellence in policing activities, establish discipline, transparency and accountability. The commission will also make recommendations to the government for formulating plans or action plans on issues such as investigation and resolution of citizen complaints, capacity building of the police, information technology training, welfare management, etc., and will also make recommendations to the government on all the laws, policies and research related to the police.
