In a notification issued on Tuesday, June 24, signed by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, the Election Commission confirmed the return of the scales symbol to Jamaat-e-Islami, alongside the reinstatement of its party registration. This decision marks a significant development in the party's efforts to regain its standing in the political landscape.

The legal saga began over a decade ago when the High Court canceled the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami during the Awami League government. However, on June 1, the Appellate Division overturned this ruling, stating that the Election Commission, as a constitutional body, would now oversee the restoration of the party's registration and symbol.

Following the court's decision, the Election Commission convened a meeting on June 4, before Eid al-Adha, where they officially decided to reinstate Jamaat's registration and its scales symbol. Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah emphasized that the official process for returning the symbol would take some time but confirmed that the policy decision had already been made.

The notification further elaborated on the legal proceedings, detailing the historical context of Jamaat-e-Islami's registration and the subsequent cancellation by the Election Commission in 2018. It also cited the Appellate Division's order to quash the earlier cancellation, thereby reinstating the party's registration and symbol.

With the scales symbol now officially returned, Jamaat-e-Islami is once again positioned to participate in future elections, marking a pivotal moment in the party's ongoing legal and political journey.
