Ashraful’s friend George has been named as the prime accused, along with several unnamed accomplices, according to the case statement submitted on Friday.
Following the case filing, Ashraful’s family members went to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue to receive the body. The hospital authorities said the body would be handed over to the family after the autopsy is completed.
Family members told reporters that Ashraful had no known disputes or enemies. They said he had traveled to Dhaka three days ago with his friend George, after which his mobile phone remained switched off. They were later informed that police had recovered the phone.
The grieving family demanded a fair investigation, arrest of all those involved, and maximum punishment for the killers.
Earlier, police recovered the severed body parts from two blue drums placed near the National Eidgah. The CID Crime Scene Unit later identified the victim by analyzing his fingerprints.
Ashraful Haque, aged 42, was a resident of Nayapara village in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur. According to the local police, Ashraful had been reported missing in Dhaka, after which the family filed a general diary (GD) before learning of his death.
Police say the investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the brutal murder and identify all those involved.
