He made these remarks at a seminar organized at Hotel Lakeshore in the capital on Wednesday (October 29).

Salahuddin said, “BNP is disappointed with the various activities of the National Consensus Commission and the interim government. The steps they have taken do not align with our expectations.”

Referring to the October 17 document, he said, “The document signed on October 17 does not fully correspond with the recommendations for implementing the July Charter. It was said that a referendum would be held on 48 points, but we were not consulted. It raises questions about why so much discussion and effort were made for so long.”

He further stated, “There is no guarantee that the consensus will actually be implemented. The July Charter that was signed is not what we had agreed upon. The current proposals reflect the opinions of the commission and one or two parties, not a national consensus. The goal of the commission was to build unity, but these proposals will only deepen divisions and disunity in the country. We do not know their true objectives or intentions.”

On the issue of the Representation of the People Order (RPO) and the alliance symbol, Salahuddin said, “Any political party in an alliance should have the freedom to choose either its own symbol or the alliance symbol. But suddenly it was declared that even alliance members must use their individual symbols. Another party has supported this decision, which we did not expect.”

Concluding his remarks, the BNP leader said, “We hope the current government will act as a truly neutral caretaker administration. However, we are deeply disappointed with both the activities of the Consensus Commission and several recent actions of the government.”
