A notification in this regard was issued by the Law Ministry on Thursday (January 1) by order of the President.
The notification said that the President has given additional charge of the post of Attorney-General of Bangladesh to Additional Attorney-General Mohammad Arshadur Rouf. This order will come into effect immediately.
Earlier, on December 28, Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman submitted a letter of resignation to the President.
Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India after resigning from the post of Prime Minister on August 5, 2024, in the face of a mass uprising by students and the public. Two days later, on August 7, the then Attorney General A. M. Amin Uddin submitted a letter of resignation to the President, citing personal difficulties.
The next day, on August 8, Senior Advocate Md. Asaduzzaman assumed office as the 17th Attorney General of Bangladesh. Later, he received the nomination from BNP in the 13th National Parliament election. He resigned after buying the nomination form of BNP's candidate in Jhenaidah-1 constituency.
