BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir began announcing the names of the party’s nominees at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Monday (November 3) at around 5:30 p.m.

During the announcement, Mirza Fakhrul stated that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will contest from three constituencies Feni-1, Bogra-7, and Dinajpur-3 while the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will contest from Bogra-6.

He also confirmed that he himself will be running from the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, while Sanjida Tuli widely known as Mayer Dakar has been nominated for Dhaka-14.

Mirza Fakhrul continued to announce the names of other candidates from different districts during the briefing.

Earlier, a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee was held under the leadership of acting chairman Tarique Rahman, where the initial list of candidates was finalized.

“After 16 long years, we are preparing for democratic elections in February,” Mirza Fakhrul said. “We are announcing a list of potential candidates for 237 seats. The BNP will also coordinate with the partners of the simultaneous movement regarding seat distribution.”

In a previous interview with Dhaka Post, the BNP Secretary General explained that the party has been conducting field surveys to identify candidates with the strongest chances of winning.

Present at the press conference were BNP Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
