In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Sunday morning (October 12), which was also shared on the party’s official page, Dr. Rahman said, “It is sad but true that some members of this force have completely failed to respect the existing laws and human rights of the country. The people of Bangladesh want to be proud of the patriotic army.”
Referring to the events surrounding the July movement, the Jamaat chief said those involved acted as “blind collaborators” in carrying out the agenda of killing political opponents at the instigation of a fascist government. This, he noted, created a “frightening environment of disappearances and murders,” which he described as deeply unfortunate for the nation.
However, Dr. Rahman emphasized that the entire army should not be blamed for the crimes of a few individuals. “The responsibility for the crime lies solely with the individuals concerned,” he stated.
Praising the army’s recent actions, he said, “The army has already made a clear announcement to support this trial process, and the accused have been taken into custody. We welcome this initiative of the army.”
Expressing optimism about the outcome of the trial, the Jamaat Ameer said he hopes the process will be fair and transparent. “We hope that no injustice will be imposed on anyone. Through a transparent trial, the guilty will face appropriate punishment. This will not only clear past responsibilities but also prevent anyone in the future from misusing their position or identity to harm people's lives and property. The nation will benefit in the long run,” he added.
