Time Digital News: Controversial Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman has been suspended as of Thursday after the High Court division in February upheld his three-year jail term.
He was serving at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police as additional commissioner in 2018. He was suspended and attached to the police headquarters.
The home ministry in a gazette notification confirmed his dismissal.
He was withdrawn on January 9, 2018 following allegations of threatening a news presenter of a private television channel. Mizan allegedly picked up the 25-year-old woman in July 2017, and then forcibly married her.
The police official was prosecuted by the Anti-Corruption Commission in a case in June 2019 while corruption and money laundering charges, among others, were brought against him.
Before this dismissal, at least five officials four from the police cadre and one from administration cadre who joined the public service in 1991 were sent on early retirement.
The home ministry issued separate gazette notifications to this effect as per the Public Service Act 2018. It cited ‘public interest’ as the reason for sending them on retirement before completion of their normal service tenure.
Mizan got job along with 37 others in 12th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service during the regime of president Hussain Muhammad Ershad.
They joined the service on January 20, 1991 and went to receive training at Bangladesh Military Academy.
