Six AL Leaders, Activists Arrested from Flash Mob in Capital

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested six leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations for allegedly participating in a flash mob procession in the capital.

According to a press release issued by the DMP’s media wing on Monday (November 3), the arrests were made during overnight raids conducted across different areas of Dhaka from Sunday night to Monday morning.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Dhaka Metropolitan North Krishak League Vice President Md. Mazharul Islam Sohel Fakir (38), Chhatra League activist Md. Nahid Hasan Shaon (23), Gazipur Sreepur Upazila Sramik League General Secretary Mahbub Alam alias Liton (42), Chandpur District Jubo League Co-Organizing Secretary and Shahrasti Upazila Jubo League member Md. Nizam Uddin Kiron (43), Pirojpur District Kumarkhali Union Chhatra League Vice President Md. Riyad Matubbar (31), and Chhatra League Barishal Metropolitan Convening Committee member Sirajul Islam Rakib (28).

According to the DMP, DB-Motijheel Division arrested Sohel Fakir during a raid in the Pallabi Police Station area around 10:45 am on Sunday. Later that night, DB-Lalbagh Division detained Shaon from Jatrabari at around 11:30 pm, while DB-Uttara Division apprehended Liton from Uttara Sector 6 at around 9:00 am.

Meanwhile, DB-Motijheel Division arrested Kiron from the Moghbazar area around 12:15 pm, DB-Gulshan Division detained Riyad Matubbar from Shyampur Road No. 10 in Kadamtali around 4:30 pm, and DB-Cyber Division picked up Rakib from Badda around 4:00 am on Monday.

The DMP statement added that the six arrested individuals were involved in organizing and participating in the flash mob procession under the banner of a banned organization. Authorities confirmed that legal action has been initiated against them.
