Of them, 12 were arrested by Darussalam police while they were preparing to bring out a flash procession at Technical Intersection around 3:40pm, said police.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team rushed to the spot and detained them with the help of locals, while several others managed to flee, says a press release.
The arrestees are: Al Amin, 32, Akkas Mia, 52, Sohel Majhi, 38, Nesar Mia, 48, Yusuf Ali, 48, Faruk Hossain, 47, Mokbul Mridha, 54, Manik Mia, 38, Shahin, 50, Nayeem, 25, Emdadul Haque, 37, and Abdul Alim, 22, police said.
In a separate drive, Mirpur Model Police arrested six others around 2:45pm near Paikpara Type Staff Quarters, following information that a group of Awami League and banned Chhatra League activists were holding a secret meeting and chanting anti-government slogans.
The arrestees are Jewel Rana, 35, Al Noman Saif, 29, Julhas, 26, Imon Hossain Khan Manik, 25, Sagar Hossain, 27, and Ohidul Islam Suman, 33.
Legal actions against them are underway.
