The allegation was made by Riazul Islam, vice-presidential candidate of the Shibir-backed panel, at a press conference held in front of the university’s Rafiq Bhaban on Tuesday (January 6).

Speaking at the press conference, Riazul Islam alleged that Chhatra Dal activists violated the election code of conduct while introducing their panel in the English Department. “When we informed them that this was a violation of the code of conduct, they moved forward to attack our candidates. A similar incident occurred with our polling agent in the Philosophy Department,” he said.

He further claimed that Chhatra Dal activists had been pushing and creating disturbances at the university’s main gate since the beginning of the day. “Our activists who were distributing slips were harassed, and female students were also subjected to harassment. In the Physics Department, slips belonging to our panel were taken away from female students,” he added.

Riazul Islam also alleged that Chhatra Dal continued to introduce their panel in various departments, including the Philosophy Department, in violation of the rules. “When our agent tried to stop this, they entered the centre and attempted to beat him,” he said.

Stating that his panel supports a free and fair election, Riazul Islam alleged that the Election Commission was showing bias towards Chhatra Dal. He called for direct intervention by the authorities to ensure that the JUCSU election is conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
