Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Manjurul Islam has accused the Awami League of betraying the ideals of the 1971 Liberation War, turning the victory of independence into their private property. He made this statement while addressing a rally in Dhaka on Monday to mark the 54th Victory Day.
The colorful rally, which started from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque and proceeded to Shahbagh, was organized by Chhatra Shibir to celebrate Victory Day. Manjurul Islam served as the chief guest, alongside several prominent members of the organization.
In his speech, Manjurul Islam emphasized that while the country united during the war of independence in 1971, the people have not yet received the true benefits of independence, even after 54 years. He criticized the Awami League for obstructing true independence and sovereignty, citing their establishment of a one-party rule and suppressing democratic rights since 1975. He also condemned the curtailing of voting rights and freedom of speech in recent years.
Special guest Nurul Islam, Central Office Secretary of Chhatra Shibir, echoed similar sentiments, accusing the Awami League of leading the nation into a deep crisis through corruption and looting. He claimed that the ideals of justice, equality, and social justice, which the nation sought after independence, have not been fulfilled.
A large number of Chhatra Shibir workers and supporters participated in the rally, carrying the national flag and various banners and festoons. The gathering also included speeches by Dhaka University branch president Abu Sadek Kayem, as well as other metropolitan-level officials.
The rally concluded with calls for ensuring justice and democracy in the country, in line with the true spirit of the Liberation War.
