Time Digital Report: Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said today that there is no way that the government is harassing Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus for political purposes.
"There might be an information gap on the matter with those who are issuing statements for Prof Muhammad Yunus," he said in reply to a question during a media briefing at the foreign ministry today.
Momen said the government has not filed any case against the Nobel Laureate. He faces cases for two reasons -- one because his companies have not shared profits with the labourers and the other because he dodged cases, said the foreign minister.
"Our judiciary is independent and we as the government cannot influence the judicial procedures," Momen said.
On August 27, a total of 104 Nobel Laureates and 79 other global figures in an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed concern about the safety and freedom of Prof Muhammad Yunus.
