Time Digital News: Justice for Munia, a platform seeking justice for college student Mosarat Jahan Munia, on Saturday demanded the arrest of Bashundhara Group managing director Sayem Sobhan Anvir in connection with a case filed over her murder and rape.
Justice for Munia made the demand at a human chain in front of Bashundhara City Shopping Complex on Panthapath in the capital.
Platform leaders told the human chain that said that Munia’s sister Nusrat Jahan had filed the rape and murder case with a court a year ago, but the Police Bureau of Investigation neither arrested nor interrogated Anvir.
They said that the submission of the investigation report to the court was deferred for the 18th time on September 11.
They noted with concern that the court had earlier fixed the next hearing date within one month of the last hearing, but this time the court had fixed January 1, 2023, for the next hearing.
They questioned whether this was an attempt to divert public attention away from the murder or to put the investigation on hold.
The police on April 26, 2021, recovered Munia’s body while it was hanging from a ceiling fan in a rented flat at Gulshan in Dhaka.
They found photos of Munia and Anvir in the flat.
Munia’s sister Nusrat filed a case against Anvir on the same night, accusing him of abetment to suicide. The police submitted a final report to the court on July 19, 2021, giving a clean chit to Anvir.
On September 6, 2021, Nusrat filed another case with the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal against Anvir, his father, Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, and six others.
