Dhaka police commissioner's office issued an order yesterday in this regard saying that Rezaul had been transferred in the interest of administrative purposes until further notice.

The decision comes days after police detectives detained a model, Meghna Alam, who was later sent to jail for 30 days under the Special Powers Act. The police produced her before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka around 10:00pm on Thursday when she was sent to jail.

The transfer order was signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali. It said that Additional Commissioner (Detective) Rezaul Karim Mallick has been attached to the DMP headquarters.

It also said the order would come into effect immediately.

Rezaul, an officer of the 17th BCS (police) cadre, joined Bangladesh Police in 1998. Before taking charge as DB chief on September 1 last year, he served in various units, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Meanwhile, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul today said at a press conference that Meghna Alam was not arrested following due legal procedure.
