He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Tuesday (November 25) around 10:30 pm, after distributing relief materials to fire-affected families in the Karail slum.
“We are trying to stand by the affected people as much as possible,” Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said. “Jamaat wants to play a responsible role in helping them overcome this difficult time.”
Expressing gratitude to journalists, he added, “The media is playing an important role in highlighting the suffering and reality of the people. I hope the media will remain our proud partner in the struggle to build a just society in the future.”
Earlier in the evening, a devastating fire broke out in the Mohakhali Karail slum. Nineteen units of the fire service brought the blaze under control after a five-hour effort, around 10:30 pm.
According to the fire service, at least 1,500 houses were destroyed. The cause of the fire will be determined following an investigation.
