Time Digital Report: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's counsel Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand has said there is no scope of banning the politics of Jamaat.

Though Jamaat's appeal against the cancellation of its registration was dismissed in the appeal, the party will have the scope of doing normal politics according to the constitution, he said.

Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand was talking to reporters after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed Jamaat's appeal against cancellation of the registration by the Election Commission (EC).

He said, "Our senior lawyers pleaded to the Appellate Division to adjourn the hearing on High Court verdict in the wake of ongoing political situation and hartal in the country. You know, our chief lawyer in the case is former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali. The court didn't take his appeal for adjournment of hearing into cognizance, and rather dismissed it."

The Jamaat's counsel said the case has been resolved at the Supreme Court today. "We will take our next steps according to the directives of the party."

He further said Jamaat's leave-to-appeal petition at the Appellate Division was related to the legality of its registration. The court has given its opinion about the registration.

However, Jamaat's politics will not be affected. It will have the opportunity of processions and rallies. "Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will have the scope of exercising politics," he said.
